Achilles International: Achilles enables people with disabilities to participate in mainstream running in order to promote personal achievement, enhance self-esteem and lower barriers to living a fulfilling life. This non-profit organization has chapters and members in over 65 locations in the United States and abroad. Every day, in parks, gyms, and tracks all over the world, Achilles provides athletes with disabilities with a community of support.
Able-bodied volunteers and runners with disabilities come together to train in an environment of support and community. Within this community, runners gain measurable physical strength and build confidence through their sense of accomplishment, which often transfers to other parts of their life.

The Hope & Possibility® is the signature race of Achilles International, an international 501(c)(3) that brings together able-bodied runners with athletes with disabilities, welcoming all to the wonderful world of athletics.
Hope & Possibility® began in 2003 with the remarkable recovery of avid runner Trisha Meili, author of I Am the Central Park Jogger, A Story of Hope and Possibility®. Since that time, Achilles has hosted 12 Hope & Possibility® races in New York City’s Central Park. Attendees have included Prince Harry of Wales, Jon Stewart, Gloria Gaynor, Heather McCartney, Cindy and Meghan McCain, and former New York governor David Paterson, who is currently Chairman of Achilles International Board of Directors.
