It all started in 2015, after Mope underwent a fibroid operation. She had started experiencing severe stomach pains, went to the emergency room and ended up being admitted to Vanderbilt Hospital. From there, she went into a coma and upon coming out of the coma, she couldn’t use her right leg as it became gangrene due to infection. From there, the Doctors had to amputate her leg to save her life.
After amputation, Mope was visited by Michelle Prichard. She explained the process of getting a prosthetic leg and gave her all of the information she needed to achieve it. Mope stated, “Michelle was knowledgeable and willing to help. She was a very nice person with a sense of humor. She’s glad she met her!”
Since the amputation, Mope’s proudest accomplishment is driving again using her left leg. At first, it was very difficult and painful for her, but she couldn’t give up without achieving her goal. She is very grateful to God for giving her the strength and courage to reach this goal, along with walking again.
In Mope’s free time, she likes to spend time at home and watch her kids mature and grow. She also spends a lot of time bettering her health at the Doctor’s office and in therapy. The perfect day for her is when she has minimal pain and is able to enjoy talking to family and listening to gospel songs.
When it comes to advise for new amputees, Mope says, “My advice to new amputees is to not give up no matter how painful and difficult it may seem. You have to understand that you are a winner and winners never quit. You must also have faith in God. All things are possible with God by your side.”
